Design Ethos
Ledger UI is built for the real operating conditions of global trade, not idealized labs. Our design ethos is grounded in three commitments: Global South first, Inclusion first, and Trust by design.
Global South First
We design for regions where bandwidth is limited, devices are shared, and connectivity is intermittent.
- Offline-aware by default: no blank screens, last-known state is always visible.
- Low-bandwidth respectful: efficient UI, light assets, and progressive disclosure.
- Device-agnostic: works on older Android devices and low-memory browsers.
- Localized conventions: dates, currencies, and formats match local expectations.
Inclusion First
Inclusion is a product requirement, not a checklist.
- Accessible by default (WCAG 2.1 AA): keyboard navigation, ARIA, and 4.5:1 contrast.
- Low literacy modes: clear labeling, icon + text, and simplified flows where needed.
- RTL and multilingual support: built-in directionality and culturally adapted translation.
- Large touch targets: reliable usability in challenging environments.
Trust by Design
Proof must be visible in every workflow. Ledger UI is optimized for verification, not persuasion.
- Proof-forward surfaces: audit trails, timestamps, and attribution are easy to reach.
- Transparency over polish: states and errors are explicit and actionable.
- Sovereign minimalism: calm, deliberate design that signals reliability.
If you’re integrating Ledger UI into a new product, start with the Vision and Design Principles pages, then review the Accessibility and i18n guides to ensure your implementation aligns with this ethos.
